Modern Oriental

We believe that every individual should have a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and sensible. This is exactly what we aimed to achieve with a recent project we worked on in the heart of Tanjong Pagar.

Our client was single and a working professional who typically worked from home. She had debated for a while whether to knock down one of the rooms in her 3-room HDB, but after much discussion, she eventually decided that an open-plan layout would serve her better. This proved to be a wise choice, especially when Covid-19 struck and she had to spend more time at home.

With that decision made, we converted the knocked down room into functional storage space for her bags and belongings, complete with decorative golden round oriental door handles.

The client expressed interest in incorporating elements of Chinese culture into her home, but didn’t want it to be too traditional or literal.

Drawing inspiration from Chinese gardens, we designed a round mirror on the living room wall to elongate the live edge dining table and expand the space visually, while emulating subtle hints of the oriental design.

This wall was a key focal point of the space, so we chose to tile it with an interesting patterned tile from Hafary to give it a modern twist on traditional wooden panels found in traditional oriental homes.
